PMX internships in the age of AI and agentic coding
Setting expectations for the mentor and the intern
GenAI
Pharmacometrics
Index of the documents in the pmx-internship project: what a pharmacometrics internship should look like now that interns work with AI assistants and coding agents, and what the mentor and the intern should each expect.
An AI assistant can now do much of the work a pharmacometrics (PMX) intern did in 2020: writing model code, debugging it, drawing the plots, drafting the report. An intern who uses the same assistant can also do more than a 2020 intern could, possibly with less of the mentor’s time. This project asks which of those wins, where the mentor’s time still changes the outcome, and writes down what the mentor and the intern should each expect before the internship starts.

- Working specification. The question, what has changed since 2020, where the mentor’s time goes, the expectations on each side, how the intern’s work is validated, how to tell whether a lighter-touch internship worked, and the open questions.
